INETL, Receives UNFPA Support to Strengthen Demographic and Health Survey 2025 Data Editing.

The President of INETL, Mr. Elias dos Santos said, today in collaboration with UNFPA, INETL receives four laptops to bolster our data editing teams for the Demographic and Health Survey 2025. This support strengthens our capacity to deliver accurate and timely data for informed decision-making.

On behalf of the Ministry of Finance and INETL, I extend our sincere thanks for UNFPA’s steadfast partnership since 2002, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future.

President Elias dos Santos Ferreira further noted that the TL-DHS field teams are currently in the field. We invite the UNFPA Representative, Ms. Navchaa Suren to participate in monitoring activities to gain deeper understanding of enumerators’ and supervisors’ experiences, and to identify any additional obstacles they face during fieldwork, such as households being away for farming and other commitments. Addressing these challenges will help ensure efficient data collection across municipalities.

In the same occasion, UNFPA Representative in Timor-Leste, Ms. Navchaa Suren said that, it is a great pleasure   for her to be here to handover laptops that will be used during the office editing of the data collected from the 2025 TL-DHS.  I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the President of INETL and his Team for achieving a big mile stone-that is implementing the field work for the TL-DHS.

Mr. President, the laptops that we are handing over today, are not just equipment, but an effort to ensure that INETL produces quality data on maternal and child health that will guide this country’s’ policies and programs aimed at improving the health of women. This data will show the extent of unmet need for family planning among women, extent of childbearing are very young ages among girls, extent of women empowerment and many other issues.  The country is eagerly waiting for the results of TL-DHS, as the previous survey was conducted   9 years ago, highlighted by Ms. Suren.

UNFPA Representative also by informing to the participant that, the TL-DHS   data   will also show how much progress has been made in achieving the globally set Sustainable   Development   Goals on improving health of the population, Safe sanitation and   drinking   water   but   also   on empowering   women   by   reducing   gender inequalities.

Ms. Suren further said, UNFPA remains committed to support the Government of Timor-Leste through INETL to ensure that high quality TL-DHS data on health is collected in a timely manner. UNFPA’s is coordinating all the support from Development partners such as UNICEF. WFP, Australia’s DFAT and the World Bank – the role of UNFPA has facilitated coordinated resource mobilization, where TL-DHS funds from all the partners funds are managed   with   uniform   guidelines.    This   partnership   has   also   promoted stakeholder participation in this survey.   UNFP A is also backstopping   the technical support of ICF, by providing in-country technical assistance to ensure capacity transfer.

As UNFPA, we are proud of our long and trusting partnership with the Government through INETL and Ministry of Health.  We will continue to support the process until all the data is processed, analyzed, disseminated and most importantly used in planning for the health sector.

UNFPA trust that these laptops will go a long way to enhance the capacity of INETL, to process the TL-DHS data. We look forward to our continued partnership and success in implementing our efforts to produce high quality TL-DHS data, that will save the lives of women and young women in Timor-Leste, Ms. Suren stated.
