Business Activity Surveys
In order to use the data from the 2001 Timor Leste LSMS Survey, it is necessary to download supporting documentation, which includes a :
- The General Directorate of Statistics conducts a range of economic and business surveys. These surveys provide important information on aspects of the Timor-Leste economy and they also provide source data that are critical for compilation of gross domestic product (GDP) and other national accounts statistics.
- The Business Activity Survey was first conducted in 2010 and is now conducted each year. It collects data that are essential for understanding the economic circumstances of Timor-Leste as the country pursues its development agenda. The main BAS statistics are of two types:
- Data that shed light on the structure and economic performance of the formal business sector in Timor-Leste. Such data include business counts, employment aggregates (e.g. employment status, gender), a detailed breakdown of income and expenses items (by industry) and profit/loss items.
- Economic data items used in the compilation of the Timor-Leste national accounts, most particularly the calculation of gross domestic product. These data include output, intermediate use, industry value added, compensation of employees, gross operating surplus and capital expenditure.
- The data are also presented separately by selected industries and by geography (Dili/other Districts).
- The Labour Force Survey was conducted in respect of 2010 and is expected to be conducted on a regular basis in future. The survey collects data from households, including household characteristics and employment status (employed/unemployed/not in the labour force). The 2010 survey was conducted with technical support and backstopping by the International Labour Organization.
