The World Food Programme Handling over 2 computers with high capacity to INETL for dealing with big data

Dili, 06 February 2024 (INETL-I.P) – The World Food Programme Representative to Timor-Leste, Mrs. Cecilia Garzon today handling over 2 computers with enough capability to the President of the National Institute of Statistics of Timor-Leste, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira for technical teams that will be working to manage and extracting through those large data files.

WFP Representative Mrs. Garzon saying, it is with great pleasure that I am here today to answer the Government’s call for support and continue our long-standing relationship towards a better and stronger Timor-Leste.

Mrs. Garzon further said that, data has always been key to lead any Government into promising and sustainable future. Throughout our collaborations, WFP has had the privilege to witness the maturing of your Institution as a strong data service provider for the government.

We understand the importance of the work that INETL is doing and up to now WFP has made contributions focused on supporting and strengthening this work, she added.

In this occasion the President of INETL, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira extending his especial thanks to WFP Representative in Timor-Leste Mrs. Garzon for continue commitment in support the government especially the National Institute of Statistics of Timor-Leste.

In the other hand the President of INETL and WFP representative share the same thoughts that, WFP has been support 100 tablets for the first digitalized and fourth Population and Housing Census in Timor-Leste as well as 38 smartphones for the collection of Consumer Price Index data. 

WFP representative by adding that, we are sure the equipment we have provided has helped INETL deliver valuable datasets to other Government Institutions so they can further their work but most importantly, by delivering consistent data, help guide the country’s leaders with informed decision-making towards a long, hard but desired path to sustainability.

The donations come in all shapes and sizes, we are sure that this one, in the hands of the INETL technicians, will produce great outcomes for your country in the near future. We have had a close partnership with the Statistics office, now INETL, with important objectives such as addressing the nation’s food security issues through several training and work together in price monitoring data collection and analysis, Food Security Bulletins, market assessment knowledge sharing, and market dynamics workshops.

Mrs. Garzon further said that our upcoming collaboration on the Vulnerability module of the Census data, to support MSSI on the Social Protection Sector, is an example of our strong partnership. With challenging but rewarding collaborations such as these, it will be a long one, with many opportunities yet to come. In this handling over ceremony, participants were coming from different agencies, such as the World Food Programme, National Media and also the National Institute of Statistics of Timor-Leste’s staff. This event took place at the INETL, I.P., central office, at Caicoli, Dili.
