The Percentage Change of Consumer Price Index, Timor-Leste for January 2020

Díli, 18 February 2020, The Director General of Statistics, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira today is release news report of Consumer Price Index for January 2020. The Launching was attending by Dean of UNDIL University, BCTL representatives, NGOs of Luta Hamutuk and LAO hamutuk, Media, University Students and the National Directors at GDS as well as representatives from line ministries. The event was held at the GDS REHA Conference Room, Caicoli, Dili.

All Groups percentage change rise (+0.2%) for the month of January 2020, compared to December 2019 rise (+0.1%). Percentage change of All Groups (+0.2%) was contributed from Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverage (+0.1%), Clothing and Footwear (+1.6%), and Education (+2.6%). The groups of Alcohol and Tobacco (-0.2%), and transport (-0.1%) become as change against of all groups inflation. The Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverage become a huge impact from sub-group Vegetables (+0.8%), Milk, Cheese, and Eggs (+1.6%), Sugar, Marmalade, Honey, Chocolate and Confectionery (+0.8%), Food product (+0.4%), coffee, tea and chocolate (+0.3%). Rice (-0.5%), Meat (-0.4%), Oil and Fats (-0.3%) sub-groups was the largest offsetting movement of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverage. The price of rice decreased for this month was driven by imported rice which reflected by an international price of rice fell 8% in the last trimestral of December 2019 therefore it is also affect to January 2020.

Annual all groups percentage change rose (+0.2%) compared January 2020 to January 2019, was contributed by Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverage (+0.1%), Education (+2.6%), Clothing and Footwear (+1.7%), transport (+0.3%), and Recreation and Culture (+0.1%). The Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance (-0.7%), Alcohol and Tobacco (-0.2%), Housing (-0.2%) and Communication (-1.1%) as the largest offsetting movement for the year of January 2020Tradable Inflation rose (+0.2%) and Non-Tradeable Inflation increase (+0.1%) compared in January 2020 to December 2019.

Tradable Inflation fell (-0.2%) and Non-Tradeable inflation rose (+0.8%) compared in January 2020 to January 2019.
