INETL, I.P. celebrated the world Statistics Day with the headline theme “Alignment of State indicators, to enable the National indicators framework for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Dili, October 20th 2023, Minister of Finance, H.E. Santina Viegas Cardoso, appeal to the National Institute of Statistics Timor-Leste, (INETL,I.P.) to continue providing services in producing official statistics with high quality in order to help Timor-Leste towards its membership to ASEAN and SDGs reporting.

In commemorating this global day, the President of INETL,I.P., Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira also highlighted that the main objective of commemorating the World Statistics Day this year, the INETL has outlined four important sequence of activities:

A thanksgiving mass ceremony at the Motael Church, in celebrating the institutional transformation of General Directorate of Statistics (DGE) into the National Institute of Statistics of Timor-Leste (INETL,I.P.), also, in remembrance of DGE’s deceased staff, consultative meeting of INETL’s management team including Chiefs of Municipalities Statistical Office, launching of national publications, such as: National Accounts 2022, Business Activity Survey 2022, External Trade Statistics 2022, Census Wall-chart 2022, and  dinner.

During the celebration of World Statistics Day, the President of INETL, in his remarks, would like to extend his gratitude to the representative of UNFPA in Timor-Leste, Ms. Presia Arifin Cabo, on the contribution from the UNFPA to assist INETL in producing the Census Wall-chart of 2022 and distributed this document across the Office of the Municipality Authorities and Municipality Statistics Offices.

In this special occasion, a brief workshop was launched by the H.E. Santina Viegas Cardoso, the Minister of Finance of Timor-Leste and participated by development partners, line ministries, and academics.

In this workshop, a forum of discussion was facilitated by the technical subject matters of each directorate within INETL as a way to provide information related to statistical services delivered by the INETL to the public, particularly to the academics. Partaken in this commemoration, H.E. Santina Viegas Cardoso, Ms. Presia Arifin Cabo, the Representative of UNFPA in Timor-Leste, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira, President INETL, I.P., Director General from the line ministries, Chief of Municipality Statistics office, academics, and media. This event was taken place at the Central Office of INETL, I.P., Caicoli, Dili.
