TIMOR-LESTE NATIONAL ACCOUNTS 2006-2025

It is with great pleasure that I present the Timor-Leste’s National Accounts for 2006-2025 (TL-NA 2006-2025). This comprehensive publication offers a consistent set of macroeconomic accounts that are invaluable for economic analysis and policy-making in our nation.

The TL-NA 2006-2025 is a testament to our commitment to transparency and accuracy in economic reporting. It covers all designated activities and their consequences for economic agents, using identical values and consistent accounting rules to establish the impact of actions on all parties concerned.

This work has been meticulously produced by the National Institute of Statistics of the Ministry of Finance, under the capable supervision of its President, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira, with valuable input from national consultant, Faviana Bosco de Sousa. The statistics within are based on a robust combination of surveys, administrative data, and other reliable sources.

In line with international best practices, the compilation of all economic activity data follows the United Nations System of National Accounts 2008 (2008 SNA). This globally recognized standard ensures that our measures of economic activity adhere to strict accounting conventions based on sound economic principles.

The TL-NA 2006-2025 provides an integrated set of accounts, including estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reconciled using three consistent approaches – production, expenditure, and income. These estimates are as independent as basic sources allow, with the reconciliation process conducted separately for the oil and non-oil sectors of our economy.

Furthermore, this publication extends beyond GDP estimates to include Gross National Income (GNI), Gross National Disposable Income (GNDI), and Gross Saving, all compiled under the concepts and definitions of the 2008 SNA.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the National Institute of Statistics, Ministry of Finance, for their successful implementation of this project. My gratitude also extends to the many individuals who have contributed their expertise and effort to this work.

For those interested in delving deeper into the methodological aspects of this publication, I encourage you to visit the National Institute of Statistics website at https://inetl-ip.gov.tl/, where you can find detailed notes on the concepts, classifications, methods, and sources used in the TL-NA.

This publication represents a significant step forward in our understanding of Timor-Leste’s economic landscape. It will undoubtedly serve as a crucial tool for policymakers, researchers, and all those invested in the economic development of our nation.
